The B.E.A.S.T.

This piece intrigued me from the moment I fused the acrylic images together.  I saw a sleeping moose and a cow with her eyes closed immediately.  But I struggled for a name and I was stuck.  I posted the image on my Facebook fan page to see what others might see in the work.  The response was phenomenal!  So many got involved and had ideas and saw things I never considered.  Ultimately one of my fans saw a beast at the top and a beauty beneath and once I saw those images, that made the title he chose perfect….”Beauty And The Beast”…..so much to see.

You Gotta Laugh

sharoncummings's avatarAbstract Art by Sharon Cummings

I find it really helps to have a sense of humor in whatever I am doing.  Creating art is no exception.  Not every painting or sculpture turns out exactly as you envision it in your mind.  Sometimes you get the unexpected goofy piece.  I had to laugh when I fused this painting and “Catman” appeared.  It made me think of my childhood days and some of the funny cartoons we used to watch.  Have a giggle on me today. 🙂

ANTS In My PANTS!!

sharoncummings's avatarAbstract Art by Sharon Cummings

I’ve always thought that was a funny saying….but it’s true!  I’ve got ants in my pants over my new Looking Glass Series.  The response has been phenomenal and I made my first sale only days after it’s launch.  And I sold a HUGE 84 inch print!  So excited!  But I’ve also really had ants in my pants and I can tell you it is no fun.  Chi Ant isn’t that kind of bug. He’s a lover not a biter.  When I first fused the painting together and saw Mr. Happy bug I thought, that’s weird.  Then I realized the piece made me feel happy.  There is something about his soft pink complexion and content eyes.  There is also a beautiful aqua butterfly looking up at him….and if you look closely a walrus is in there too.

TIME TRAVEL – Where Would You Go?

sharoncummings's avatarAbstract Art by Sharon Cummings

Image

Time travel has been an interest in Science Fiction films and books for many years.  Poets have written about it.  Scientists have dreamed of it.  So far, all we can do is go back in our minds to places we have been or seen before.  If you could go back in time, where would you go?  Sometimes I think it would be cool to go back a few hundred years and see how people acted back then.  But then I remember my Holistic Medicine beliefs…my herbs….my meditation and know I would be burned at the stake somewhere.  Honestly if I could go back, I would not go far.  I’d go back to last Summer and say goodbye to my Dad before he passed away.  I’d go back and spend time with Grandparents, Friends and other loved ones who have passed.  For me time travel wouldn’t be all that exciting…

Enlightenment

sharoncummings's avatarAbstract Art by Sharon Cummings

Webster tell us that enlightenment means the state of having knowledge or understanding : the act of giving someone knowledge or understanding.  For me it means seeing my world for what it really is.  Taking off blinders and realizing where I am nourished and walking away from people and places that do not feed my soul.  it is spiritual satisfaction.  In this abstract art piece titled “Enlightenment” I see a very satisfied soul….an all knowing crow and a beautiful tropical bird.  It makes me feel happy in side.  My Looking Glass series takes original paintings on yopo and fuses them together to form interesting faces, figures and objects.  Look closely and discover new things!

Dark Swan

sharoncummings's avatarAbstract Art by Sharon Cummings

Image

This piece was discovered while I was creating a colorful abstract painting.  I say “discovered” because often when I create, I simply apply the medium and and the work reveals itself.  Michelangelo said it best:  I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.  I will wash, blow and splatter everything away from the painting until I find it.  “Dark Swan” appeared to me and really spoke to my soul.  It is dark, but there is lightness there also.  Just like the soul…..

See more of her here:

I have really been working hard lately.  I am not sure why but I have more creative energy than I have ever had.  So I will leave you with another Michelangelo quote which best describes what I do each day: If people knew how hard I worked to get my mastery, it wouldn’t seem…

Sizzling Sexy Pink

To me pink is such a versatile color.  I have always loved it in splashes in my work or sometimes as the entire focal point.  It can be oh so sexy when seen on lips or lingerie. Or it can be cute and girly for a nursery.  It can create a soft calming feel or some serious drama.  There is no need to ever shy away from pink.  It works for both masculine and feminine energy.  It is the new red.

Dramatic Pink:

Clowns…Are you scared?

ImageAre you afraid of clowns?  I find this an unusual fear, but then again I am freighted by grasshoppers.  Phobias are funny things, but I know where mine comes from.  I think clowns are funny looking and perhaps a little too cheerful.  I was always perplexed as a child by their colorful wardrobe, painted on smiles and tears.  Often a paradox.  I mostly saw clowns at the local rodeo as I grew up in the country and that was all there was for entertainment.  I never saw a circus, but once a year we watched the bucking broncos, bulls and the clowns.  It was a dangerous job for these guys to be out there taunting the animals to distract them from a fallen cowboy.  I now find rodeo’s cruel and would never attend, but I do remember the funny characters that entertained us so well. 🙂
