“Only in men’s imagination does every truth find an effective and undeniable existence.

Imagination, not invention, is the supreme master of art as of life” Joseph Conrad

When shooting the same coastal landscape every day, as I do in my Sunrise Sunset Image Art Series, it can be a challenge to create something visually new. At times like these, I let my imagination wander far and wide, using many tools to create an artistic rendering of a familiar scene.

“I am drawn to personalities that exude character and empathize with them as I endeavor to tell their stories with a sense of imagination, metaphor and sometimes humor.”

Kerry Dunn, Painter

Kerry Dunn graduated in 1999 from Ringling School of Art and Design with a major in illustration. After graduation Mr. Dunn moved to New York City to attend the famed Art Students League of NY and study with internationally-renowned portrait painter Nelson Shanks. Later that year, he was invited by Mr. Shanks to move to Philadelphia to be a part of the new painting school Studio Incamminati. Monochrome Monday: A Balinese Woman

Beautiful photography Indah! I cannot imagine carrying all of my supplies on my head.

indahs's avatarindahs: dive, travel & photography

Mepeed is a Balinese tradition that I wish to take picture someday. It is a tradition of a group of Balinese women carrying offerings (called as gebogan) on top of their head from their village to the temple. I was told the offerings could reach up to one meter tall! Not being fortunate to witnessed the procession while in Bali (Indonesia), at least I managed to take a picture of a Balinese lady while carrying a small offering or perhaps her stuff on top of her head. Mepeed is still on my photography bucket list to capture. If you wonder what it looks like, please visit Flickr Page on Mepeed Photos.

Hope you are having a great Monday!

The Copyright Office Proposes Resale Royalties for Visual Artists

The Copyright Office Proposes Resale Royalties for Visual Artists

Artists, such as musicians and authors, receive royalties each time their artistic works are used or sold. Hear a song on the radio and you know that its creator will receive a check for its use. That is not always true for visual artists.  How often has the astute art patron bought an artist’s early work, which they later sell for many times the price?  The artist may have a copyright in the work but not in the resale of the original. Well, that might be changing. The Copyright Office has just issued a comprehensive report, “Resale Royalties: An Updated Analysis,” which proposes legal changes to copyright laws that will allow visual artists to receive royalties every time their original work is resold.

Enlightenment – Monochrome Madness

lauramacky's avatarLaura Macky Photography

My first big outing since my surgery was north of the Golden Gate on Sunday.  After we were greeted by the colorful pelican (from yesterday’s post), we went to Rodeo Beach.  It was a gorgeous day!

Many photos have been taken of the unique rock formations at this beach, but I knew I couldn’t walk that far on the sand with my knee the way it is…at least not yet.   So I started looking at what else I could come up with.  The funny thing is that often I am looking out in the distance for an image rather than right in front of me.  I think my macro has taught me to look closer so I guess it helped me in this case.  It “enlightened” me.  🙂
