My Dark Side

My Dark Side…………………………………………… #art #abstractart

My work tends to focus on bright and vivid colors.  The brighter the better as far as I am concerned.  I am not afraid of red and orange and use them copiously within my paintings.  So it is definitely “different” for me to produce darker imagery.  But I do have a “dark side” and enjoy eliciting a feeling from my viewers using just shadow, highlights and shape.

The piece displayed above titled “Revelation” started as a photograph of a Nambe bowl which is a solid shiny silver.  I then used a variety of processing to achieve the end result.  It “revealed” itself to me and now I to you.  Enjoy!

 Green Buddha

Get Stoned……………………………………Stone Rock’d……………………….by Sharon Cummings #art #mosaic #buddha

“Green Buddha” is one my best selling pieces in my popular Stone Rock’d Art series.  These are so much fun for me to create.  A nice change from the wet messy paint slinging.  For many years now I have created and sold a series called “Labor Of Love”.  They are hand painted and meticulously detailed in a fine paint pen.  They take many hours and days to complete.  I love “recycling” my work and coming up with new ideas to continue the spirit of my art.  Stone Rock’d art is just that a reincarnation of my Labor of Love patterns onto digital paintings.  Enjoy!

I consider myself a spiritual person who takes positive tenants from all religions. I believe we truly are all ONE.

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment. Buddha

Graffiti Friday

This week we have a couple of bad ass artists from Poland strutting their stuff! Sainer and bezt work together to form Etam Cru. We are heading into graffiti weather so I expect a lot more work from them in the next few months. Central/ Eastern Europe can have bleak industrial looking residential accommodation, especially in smaller cities and towns. These guys use those buildings as wonderful canvasses for their work!

I bet you were surprised to see that as my title.  I am normally an upbeat energetic life loving artist.  I still am. But, I have problems just like everyone else.  I have health concerns, a teenager, animals in my care, a marriage, family struggles, financial worries sometimes and the list goes on.

I have learned by and large that there are two types of people on the Internet. Those who focus on all of life’s crap and negative things in the world.  And those that zero in on the good in people and the beauty of our world. Very few are in the middle.  I see the news.  I know about pain and suffering.  My life certainly has it’s share, but a long time ago, I decided that I wanted to be in the second camp.  The experts call this being an “optimist”.  I just call it self preservation.  I choose…
