Yesterday while out driving around with my Hubby looking for places to take some pictures, we stumbled across a parking lot filled with vintage Porsche’s.  What a sight to see!  And best of all, the show was over and there were hardly any people about.  We had free reign to take as many shots as we pleased without any pesky humans in the way. 🙂

Whenever I see one of these old classics, I think of my crazy uncle.  Doesn’t everyone have a “crazy uncle”?  Well I do.  And if you are reading this, you are mine Uncle Rick. 😉

When I was around 13 years old and staying with my cousin for a week up in the hills of Georgia, my Uncle Rick thought it would be great fun to teach me how to drive.  Now that sounds like a pretty normal thing to do…

“Soup to Go” was photographed in Chinatown.  Despite the chilly weather the UPS drivers wore their famous shorts.  Look for me behind the band.

Creativity vs. Skill

As I continue my photographic journey I am realizing that a good picture has more to do with creativity than skill.  Skills can be learned, but imaginative expression cannot.  Having shifted my focus recently from my paint table to my camera, I am viewing the world a lot differently.  I am not looking to simply copy what other photographers are doing.  These days with the advent of virtually full-proof cameras, anyone can take a picture of a pretty flower and have it look really good.  I am looking for things that are slightly different.  Perfect flowers can be boring and I am anything but that.  I seek out the slightly edgy or spent.  I want flowers missing from the spray.  I look for torn edges and unpopular subject matter.  Sure, I will capture a perfectly beautiful rose when it happen to be in my visual path, but I am…

U R WHAT U EAT!

U R WHAT U EAT!

U R WHAT U EAT by Jo Ann Tomaselli

These days, it’s no secret that what you choose to eat has a direct correlation on the shape of your body.
But what shapes your thoughts throughout the day?
Do you spoon up Gratitude for breakfast?
Do you slide Love onto your fork for lunch?
Do you add a dash of Humor to your dinner plate?
Or do you catch yourself ingesting harshness morning, noon and night?

To transform my body, I pay attention to what’s in my food.

To transform my spirit, I pay attention to what’s in my thoughts.

What have you been eating lately?

The Praying Monk Lightning Strike - James Bo Insogna

The Praying Monk  is a rock formation on the side of the famous Camelback mountain that sits in between Phoenix and Scottsdale Arizona.  From the first time I saw this I was always fascinated with it and thought It would make a great spiritual shot with lightning striking. This is a shot that I worked on for three years to get. This is the real deal.  I can not tell you how many times I went to my spot on the top side of this mountain and got nothing.

Ask most people if they are honest and they will say “yes” with absolute conviction.  We as a people like to think that we have integrity and morals.  In the larger picture, that may be true. After all the majority of the population obey the rules and stay out of jail.  We work hard and raise our children to be upstanding citizens.  We pay our taxes.  We live an honorable life.

But the truth is (pun intended) that we tell “little” lies all of the time.  We convince our little ones that there is this person called Santa Claus.  We tell our friends we have other plans when we just do not feel like going out to dinner with them.  We call in sick to work when what we really want is a day off.  And we tell our mate we had a salad for lunch when we…

It must be really hard to watch someone you love go off to war.  Whether it is your parent, sibling or child, the fear must be pretty intense.  I only have one child and the worst I go through is waiting for her to get home at night when she is out with friends.  I am very blessed.

My Dad served in the Korean war long before I was born and while I never had to deal with that kind of sense of longing and worry, I know my grandparents sure did.  I had an opportunity to read some letters that my Dad sent them while he was deployed.  He was not a person of many words, so it was pretty special for me to get to read these.  The letters showed a young man who was extremely homesick and who had found a new appreciation for…
