Unheard..Unknown

ashadeofpen's avatarA Shade Of Pen

I am a little closer today

Than what I was yesterday.

I am still far than

Where I thought I would be

I have travelled endless miles

And yet uncountable miles await

miles

I am living my story

And yet the tale is unknown

I hum the song of my life

And yet the lyrics are unknown

unknown song

I have a lot of artwork stored in my computer.  I’ve listed some pieces, only to take them down later due to lack of interest.  But what I have found is that I can continue to work with a piece at a later date to create something entirely new and fresh that DOES get a lot of attention!  This is a very new process for me.  In the past, when I was done, I was done.  I never went back to an old piece to rework it. I think that the digital age has really helped me over this hump.  Out with the old and in with the new!

Sometimes..!

#Love

birdies

Sometimes, it is not humans that teach us the words of love.

Sometimes, it is not humans that teach us the way to live.

Sometimes, it is the little birds

That flutter beautifully in the air

Sometimes, it is their heartfelt gestures

That makes you wish to fall in love

Sometimes, it is the way they look

That makes you wish you were a bird!

I am not an alcoholic.  In fact, I rarely drink and when I do I am such a lightweight it is laughable. A half a glass of wine and I am good.  However, I have done a 12 step program.  I am a recovered Bulimic.  Bulimia is a form of food addiction.  I have not binged/purged in over 20 years.  It was a long and difficult journey and I got some professional help too.

These days I have a very healthy outlook on food and even at Thanksgiving keep my portions to what is right for my body.  I no longer crave the physical pain of overeating to mask the emotional pain from childhood abuse.  When I feel hurt, I grab a paint brush instead of a cookie. I am healed.

The Serenity Prayer was a big part of my recovery and I still repeat it…

So You Wanna Work From Home?

“I work from home.”  Most people really like the sound of that, but after living the “dream” for over 10 years, I can tell you that there is definitely a dark side.  Most people probably picture me drinking wine, smoking dope and cheerfully splattering paint around my studio.  I might be listening to some classic rock while I work and taking frequent naps as desired.  They might assume I only work a few hours here and there and that I can go on vacation anytime I want to and just leave it all behind.  I am an artist, so people are always nice to me too.

The fantasy above could not be farther from the truth.  The fact is that this “working from home” career has been the absolute most challenging and stressful job I have ever had.  There are things about it that I absolutely love and wouldn’t trade…

Or maybe two…..Tis the season for apples!  Apple pie.  Apple cider.  Apple and cinnamon candles.  In our home an apple for the teacher too!  Americans have always had a big love for this crisp, sweet and healthy fruit.  Here are 14 health benefits to eating this great food:

1. Get whiter, healthier teeth

An apple won’t replace your toothbrush, but biting and chewing an apple stimulates the production of saliva in your mouth, reducing tooth decay by lowering the levels of bacteria.

2. Avoid Alzheimer’s

A new study performed on mice shows that drinking apple juice could keep Alzheimer’s away and fight the effects of aging on the brain. Mice in the study that were fed an apple-enhanced diet showed higher levels of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and did better in maze tests than those on a regular diet.

3. Protect against Parkinson’s

Research has shown that people who…
