Monochrome Monday: El Castillo

Beautiful!

indahs: dive, travel & photography

El Castillo or Temple of Kukulcan is the center of archaeological site of Chichén Itzá, one of the largest Maya cities.  Chichén Itzá is located in the eastern part of Yucatán state in Mexico. This impressive temple has height of 24 meters and 6 meters height of the temple on the top. It has 365 stairs to reach the top. We were not allowed to climb the stairs in which I’d rather glad not to do so – too many stairs!

Some studies said that the temple was built relates to the Mayan calendar. The 365 stairs represented of each day of the calendar (solar calender). More explanation of Mayan calendar and El Castillo as can be read further in this link.
