Rainbow Revelations

Welcome to my imagination. It is vivid, colorful and boundless. I will wander through the many shades of original colors and make my own thoughtful interpretations of what they might express as I am creating. For me images tell stories and the more you have to look at them to figure our what is going on the better. I am a complicated person and when I create art it is never simple. I am not satisfied with the first bit of what I do with an image, I need to make it really unique. Photoshop has been such a gift to me and I am thankful for the many tools I am able to use within this software program. Pink Echinacea Garden Artwork

I really LOVE flowers. I have taken thousands of photographs of them over the years and studied probably millions of them. I can’t pass by without noticing their vivid colors and captivating energy. When I look at a flower I am transported to the magic of its colorful life. A flower is a beginning and an end. When it is in full bloom, right around the corner is eventual demise. So the beauty is in the moment. Catch it now or wait until next season or next bloom. So many times I have thought that I will come back another day to capture an image only to find that the time has passed.

For this particular flower I found it in the middle of a friends garden. There were wildfires raging in the hills above her home and yet this gorgeous pink blossom was right there…

I’ve always had a fascination with Frida Kahlo. She was not a classic beauty by any means, but there is a depth and intensity to her portraits that draw me in and ask many questions. Is there beauty within or am I just seeing the pleasure side of pain. Frida suffered lifelong health problems. Many of her health problems were the result of a traffic accident she survived as a teenager. Recovering from her injuries isolated her from other people and this isolation influenced her art, many of which are self-portraits of one sort or another. Kahlo suggested, “I paint myself because I am so often alone and because I am the subject I know best.” She also stated, “I was born a bitch. I was born a painter.” Maybe I am attracted to bitches or painters or painters who are bitches. 😉 Or maybe I see a bit of myself…

The invisible spring wind
Shakes silky blooming branches
And tastes sweet flower petals.
The flower fairy fragrance swirls.
The tallest branches dance,
Encircle the sun, hug the wind.
