When I decided to open up my 25 year old portfolios to the World, there was a sense of vulnerability that came with it.  I’ve been a professional artist for around 12 years now, so that leaves 13 years unaccounted for.  During that time, I worked on a Phd. in Holistic Nutrition and I was a personal trainer/nutritional consultant.  That is a long story, but here I am today making a living doing what I have always loved!

While I have greatly appreciated all of the positive feedback I have gotten from my fans, friends and collectors, it is a comment from a stranger that sticks out the most.  This person said that my pen and ink work is fake and Photoshop artistry.  This person meant to be mean and nasty, but what I realize now is that it is the BEST compliment I have ever received on my art…

Brave New World

I’m going to be off a few weeks – working at becoming the Bionic Woman, one hip at a time. (This will be my second and shoulder next). But the prospect of joint replacement surgery got me thinking about the incredible time we live in in terms of medical advances. I’m old enough to remember the very first heart transplant ever, to have had to reschedule my wedding because a beloved member of our wedding party had found a donor and was going to have a kidney transplant – a rare and tricky procedure then that is commonplace today. I remember discussing the prognosis for our friend and hearing the word that the expectation was that the transplant – if it worked at all – would give our friend five more years…

On this road trip, while RV-ing Across America,  I had been driving pre-dawn for several hours, heading west towards Seattle all the while hoping for a coffee shop to appear – a rare find on any desolate highway that runs through farmland in the middle of what feels like no-where USA.

Finally, at 5:30 am, I spotted a quaint cafe, the OPEN sign glowing in the dark ~ success!  I pulled the RV up in front and hopped out, anticipating my hot cup of joe. For some reason I took the long way around, walking behind the camper and there, glancing up the highway, I witnessed this amazing ball of fire rising up from the pavement and illuminating the overhead clouds.
