“A drawing a day keeps the cobwebs away.” Robert Genn (May 15, 1936 – May 27, 2014), artist, painter, educator, author, writer

Genn ran the Painter’s Keys web site, a worldwide artists’ community, with his staff and volunteers. This sends out an erudite free twice-weekly newsletter, which is sent to 135,000 artists in over 100 countries, and claims the largest collection of art quotes online with over 5,382 authors quoted. His “Ten Commandments of Art Pricing” on his web site (reprinted on About.com) advise starting cheaply, raising prices slowly, keeping them the same for all purchasers and pricing by size.

In 2005, Genn campaigned against the Chinese website, arch-world.com, which was selling thousands of high-resolution images of around 2,800 artists’ work illegally, without permission. After failing to gain support from the Canadian government or the African embassy in Ottawa, Genn used his web site to enlist subscribers’ support to…

Bird Nest 2

It’s always sad when something goes amiss in nature.

When my sister presented me with this birds nest that had fallen out of a tree in her yard with an intact, perfectly formed blue egg. It was a bit sad to see but then I thought a fitting tribute would be to photograph this beautiful piece of architecture!

A wild bird builds its nest with sticks and other materials woven into an object of amazing complexity. Once the eggs are laid in the spring, the incubation time varies from species to species but it generally takes most songbirds two weeks to incubate their young and another two weeks before the young are ready to leave the nest.

I am a North Carolina based Fine Art Photographer specializing in Landscape, Nature and Travel Photography. Numerous images in…

Let the M.U.S.I.C. Play!!…………………………………………. #music #art

With the incredible success of my abstract guitars have come requests. Can you do a violin? A saxophone? A banjo? I created a beautiful violin two days ago and was inspired to keep going. The french horn is a work of art in and of itself. I love the circular patterns and detail. Music is as much an anchor in my life as artwork. I play tunes when I paint or create on the computer. Some days it might be rock and roll or country. 80’s music is also a favorite. But many days it is classical.  Just the sound of the musical instruments and nothing more…..

“The function of the hero in art is to inspire the reader or spectator to continue in the same spirit from where he, the hero, leaves off. He must release the spectator’s potentiality.” – John Berger, English art critic, novelist, painter and poet.

P.E.A.C.O.C.K. Love!

Love P.E.A.C.O.C.K. Feathers?………………………………………….. #peacocks #peacockfeathers

When I was a little girl growing up in Myakka City, FL, there was a neighbor just down the road who raised peacocks.  These creatures are surprisingly loud and when the wind was just right, our yard would be filled with their haunting cries.  I would sometimes take the back pastures over to their farm.  I had to go through a handful of barbed wire fences which is something I became an expert at.  I would greet  the cows being careful not to irritate any of the bulls.  I would inevitably pick some wild flowers, but it was the sight of of those brilliant feathers I was after.  The males with their jewel colored plumes always mesmerized me.  Once in awhile I would get lucky and one of the fowl would have strayed close to the fence and lost a feather.  This was the grand prize!

Dance of Light – Monochrome Madness

Gorgeous work!

lauramacky's avatarLaura Macky Photography

Recently, I’ve been attempting to see patterns and light before taking a black and white image, and I seem to be seeing them everywhere we go lately.  Sitting at a stoplight, driving down the road, walking down the street.  It’s everywhere!

This week’s Monochrome Madness entry was taken in the early evening when the sun was lower in the sky.  The light was beautiful as it danced off the leaves and I love how my 300mm lens achieved that nice bokeh.

The entire challenge can be found here on Leanne Cole’s Site “Monochrome Madness”  so please check it out.  It should be up later today.  Hope to see you all there commenting away!
