Ever since the movie the Omen came out the Rottweiler dog breed has gotten a bad rap.  To many people a general sense of anxiety accompanies the introduction to one of these beautiful canines.  Truth is that they were originally bred and used to herd livestock and pull carts.  I’ve watched in utter delight as one of our neighbor’s rotties herds children in their back yard as the kiddos squeal with glee.  Mr. Wiggle pants is no menace, however, he does bark when strangers come around.  This is normal dog behavior and you can expect this from any breed.  What a lot of people fail to realize is that these animals are not specifically more aggressive than some other breeds unless they are trained to be so.  You might be surprised to find Dalmatians in the top 10 of most dangerous dog breeds. How can that be?  Disney…

The rocky mountains form the Continental Divide, separating rivers draining to the Atlantic and Arctic oceans from those draining to the Pacific. The major Atlantic-bound rivers rising in the Rockies include the Rio Grande, Arkansas, Platte, Yellowstone, Missouri, and Saskatchewan. Those draining to the Arctic include the Peace, Athabasca, and Liard rivers. Flowing to the Pacific Ocean are the Colorado, Columbia, Snake, Fraser, and Yukon rivers.

RMNP spans 265,769 acres of pristine wilderness (358 square miles), making it one of the largest national parks in the United States.  Before 1978, there were very few moose in Rocky Mountain National Park. In 1978 and 1979, 24 moose were relocated from Wyoming, and…

San Josef Bay – Vancouver Island Beach Paradise!

Beautiful #photography by Carrie Cole!

carriecolephotography's avatarCarrie Cole Photography

I visited San Josef Bay in Cape Scott Provincial Park on Vancouver Island along with my husband, our two children as well as my father in the Summer of 2012.  It was one stop on our three week road trip on Vancouver Island.  Our home town is in Victoria, BC on the very south tip of Vancouver Island, so our hope was to get to explore our home island and to go as far north as possible.  So for us, San Josef Bay represented the most northern point that we could venture as a family with young children.  It is true, one can hike further north, to the very tip but that is for the more adventurous.

Getting There

San Josef Bay in Cape Scott Provincial Park is a hike-in park at the northwestern tip of Vancouver Island. The trail head for San Josef Bay and Cape Scott is located…

Ever Tasted Luscious?

Luscious Lemon……………………………………….#art #abstractart #yellowpaintings

Luscious.  Say it very slowly.  Just saying the word feels sensual.  The original meaning had to do with food.  It was used in reference to vittles that were sweet and pleasant to taste or smell. However, it has also come to mean strong sensual or sexual appeal.  You can have luscious lips or a luscious lychee.

My new piece is titled “Luscious Lemon”.  We typically do not think of this yellow citrus fruit as sweet, but there is a variety that grows well in Florida.  It is called a Meyer’s lemon and I’ve just planted a tree!  They are fragrant and have a sweeter, less acidic flavor than the more common Lisbon or Eureka supermarket lemon varieties.  You can peel and eat these beauties.  They are native to China and thought to be a cross between a true lemon and either a mandarin or common orange.  The orange in the mix…

All My Exes Live In Texas…

Love TEXAS?…………………………………………………#art #texas

sharoncummings's avatarAbstract Art by Sharon Cummings

Actually they live in Florida, but that doesn’t rhyme. 😉  I have been to Texas a few times during the Winter months.  I thought I might find love there, but It was just cold and brown.  While I am working on some maps, I decided that this one should definitely be colorful!  I’ve been seeing a lot of map wall art lately.  People love them because they are traditional and add a touch of sophistication to any room.  Abstract art on the other hand can be a bit scary for a lot of people.  I’ve combined the traditional with the modern to create a map that anyone can hang and enjoy. 🙂

Here are some interesting facts about this big state:

  1. Texas is popularly known as The Lone Star State.
  2. The Alamo is located in San Antonio. It is where Texas defenders fell to Mexican General Santa Anna and the…
