I got a call on Friday while my husband and I were on a photo shoot in St. Petersburg, Florida.  We were capturing images of the beautiful birds that call our state home.  Pelicans and blue herons mostly.  The call was timely as it came from one of my licensing agents who had just completed a trade show in Atlanta, Georgia.  Her voice was hoarse and weak from all of the talking she had to endure, but she couldn’t wait to give me the news.  They had taken a handful of my animal pieces for display and got a tremendous response from buying agents for zoos, aquariums and museums from around the country.  I was specifically excited to hear that the San Diego Zoo was interested in my work!  More animals she says…….and that is exactly what I was working on! Serendipity is definitely “for the birds”. 🙂

I’ve always been a dancer, but mostly behind closed doors.  When I was young I learned how to square dance in school.  But that kind of movement never moved me.  I also taught aerobic classes for quite a few years and while it did involve some rhythmic body steps, it was not quite tripping the light fantastic.  When I paint, I always start out with some simple jumps and steps to music to loosen me up.  I listen while I work and take breaks now and again to get my body in sync with the melody that is currently playing.  And I finish with my own type of dancing.  To me art has always been a type of dance…..

Feeling BLUE….

People often ask me what my favorite color might be.  I’ve always found that question extremely difficult to answer because I love ALL colors so much.  When I was a kid, I favored green.  It made me feel happy and alive.  But as I’ve matured, I have found that a lot of my work has shades of blue and aqua mixed together.  Blue and aqua would be two colors, but it is in fact my favorite. 🙂

Blue is the color of the clear sky and the deep sea. On the optical spectrum, blue is located between violet and green. Surveys in the U.S. and Europe show that blue is the color most commonly associated with harmony, faithfulness, and confidence.

Not sure why depression is linked to blue because this hue makes me feel really good inside.  So most days I am definitely feeling blue and love it!

75th and Woodland Lightning Thunderstorm View HDR

A view from 75th Street and Woodland in north Boulder County Colorado looking west toward the Rocky Mountain foothills with car light trails from Woodland Rd as a lightning thunderstorm does it’s magic in the air.  A very active night of lightning. Started shooting to the east across the street with strikes hitting over Terry Lake while watching it hit like crazy along the foothills moving south.  This is after getting chased back to the home studio for car cover from some very BIG painful hail!  These are nights storm chasers live for.  HDR Processing. One of the things I am learning as a photographer is that there are no “ugly” things.  Through the lens of my camera the entire world is becoming one beautiful thing after another.  Even dirt has shape, shadow and form that create interesting imagery.  The above piece is just the front end of a bulldozer but upon closer inspection it has a wonderfully curved shape and interestingly detailed teeth. The light and soil create contrast and shadow forming an abstract image that is very pleasing to the eye.
