It’s been suggested in various groups that I might be an alien.  Why?  Other artists see how much work I produce and how much I market myself.  They wonder how I can do so much and be human.  I’ve addressed this in other posts, but it all boils down to focus for me.  Some experts might even call it OCD. 😉  I will say that as I am ageing that my focus has gotten a little blurry sometimes and I do forget to do things on occasion.  I also get tired.  But this time of year I am hyped on the excitement of the season.  I absolutely thrive on painting gifts for people to share with the one’s they love.  The thought of the joy my work will bring is out of this world!  And getting ready for my first show has me smiling at the speed of light…

Sarasota Chalk Festival

ndmurray's avatarNeil Murray

Wow. Yesterday turned out much better than the weather people said it would.  Very nice weather for the artists who are doing the chalk drawings as part of the annual chalk festival.  Better than the rainy and overcast Saturday.  Several streets are blocked off for this.  The artists includes people who travel to many of these (and make a living at it I would guess) and some local students as well.  There are food vendors, people selling t-shirts, and so forth.  This year’s theme was to honor veterans so the drawings all had some sort of patriotic image.  The festival continues for another day, and because of the wet weather the artists were still working on their drawings when I went Sunday morning.

It hurts when an artist has a painting returned.  For me it is very rare.  In fact, I can count on my hands the returns I’ve had in 10 years!  Considering I have shipped out over 3000 originals, those are pretty good statistics.  The piece you see here was returned recently.  That stings bad enough, but the people were nasty and mean about it.  They said it was ugly in person and that I didn’t do a good job in creating it.  They saw it as a “product” and not an expression of joy and creation.  They treated it like something they bought at Target.  I knew in my heart that they were just unhappy people inside and that nothing would satisfy them.  There would be no art from any artist good enough for them.  But it still hurt. I also knew that one day this painting…

I am not just an artist.  I am many things and one of them is an Art Collector.  I have pieces from all around the world from some amazingly talented people.  Gifts to the planet!  I recently had the great blessing to discover a wonderful creator named Maya Telford out of North Vancouver, BC – Canada.  Her work “speaks to me”…..so much femininity and softness, yet strong and powerful to the soul.  For years I have collected similar works from other artists I have encountered along my journey.  I really do not have anymore shelf or wall space, but some how I manage to “squeeze” a new piece in now and again.  This is my latest collection piece titled “The Perfected Soul” and it really mirrors how I am feeling these days…..what a wonderful adventure I am on and with each day I can feel my soul heading exactly…

What do you think of when you think of “apple”?  A computer?  New York City?  Mom?  A teacher?  Someone you love?  We are pretty big on apples here in the United States.  We have Apple computers….an iconic city….a beloved professor…..the apple of our eye….and let’s not forget…..PIE!!….Busy bee here, but today I offer you an apple.  It has gotten cold here in Florida, so I think I will make some hot cider….apple of course!
