Hope Springs Eternal Abstract Healing Art

Hope springs eternal in the human breast;
Man never is, but always to be blessed:
The soul, uneasy and confined from home,
Rests and expatiates in a life to come.

Alexander Pope, An Essay on Man

Insights and Awareness

As life goes on it will either get simpler or more difficult. Nothing ever seems to stay the same. The lessons learned along the way are recorded for my future use and often times this will help me through on another day. Sometimes the experiences I have will change mein ways I could never imagine possible. When this is the case a riot of colorful images are forever imprinted. When I need them most insights will come and awareness can be full. My artwork here is representing all of the memories I have stored and recorded with my eyes. The indistinct quality is everything I don’t remember and yet what is crystal clear to me. Vision can see some things and then the rest of us will record what else is possible. A moment in time harbors a lifetime of experience.

Do any of you other artists ever collaborate?  Work on photography together?  Paintings?  Music?  I tend to be a loner when it comes to my work, but I have had some really great opportunities to work with some amazing artists from around the World on pieces of art that really challenged me but ultimately brought me great satisfaction.

The piece above is a joint effort between me and my husband William Patrick.  We headed to the beach with his box of toys and I handled all of the choreography and staging while he snapped the shots.  I also handled the post processing.

Down the Rabbit Hole was a very interesting project that I shared with a Canadian artist named Geraldine Gracia.  What we did was each sent each other a package filled with all sorts of bits and pieces of things we collected.  The rule…

Artists that Inspire Me Tuesdays – Klimt

modartspace's avatarmodartspace

So many know this artist by one painting…the infamous kiss.  That is one painting I will not be showcasing and it’s not because I don’t like the image(I love it) but there’s so much more to Gustav Klimt’s work.

Image

Gustav Klimt was a symbolist painter whose technical skills were painstakingly accurate. His early work as well as his drawings demonstrate that.

Image

His work is extensive and exquisite – some of his work is haughty and some provocative. For a complete view of all of his work check out klimt.com

Thank you Gustav Klimt! You truly are inspiring!

My Usual Haunts – Exterior and Interior

musingswithcamerainhand's avatarMusings with Camera in Hand

I didn’t post last week, as my days off were filled with a couple of outings, but it should work out well, because as I review my photos from two weeks ago and think back, I’m in a similar frame of mind this week.

I find myself, at this stage of my life, more confined, so that when I look at photographs of others from far off places, I’m a bit envious, although I’ve been blessed to have traveled in the past. But the current situation can dim my spirits and I’ve been feeling like I’ve been running on empty. So I seek refuge in my usual haunts, and find myself traveling familiar grounds, physically and metaphysically.

Metaphysically speaking – I find myself on the verge of depression. I’ve been here and through it before. I’m isolated, geographically, from my closest friends, and I feel at a disconnect. I feel…

Lotus Glow

Lotus flower

Beautiful and delicate, Bowl Lotus ‘Beautiful Dancer’ appears to glow in the soft afternoon sunlight.

I’ve been growing waterlilies for years, and they always take off and bloom fantastically in my tiny ponds. Growing lotus has been much more of a challenge. I’ve selected the smallest lotus type available, called “bowl lotus,” and they are supposed to do well in small pots.

The first year I grew them was a complete failure, as raccoons used the water to vigorously wash their food and paws each night, and the tiny signs of life from each lotus soon vanished and I was left with rotting tubers. The bloom on ‘Beautiful Dancer’ pictured above is from my second attempt at growing lotus (last year), and out of my three lotus plants it was the only one to successfully grow and bloom. I’m currently trying again, and while I have leaves on two of…
