“Nature’s Chorus”

New Mixed Media Art Painting Based On Old Pen

And Ink Drawings From 25 Years Ago

Sharon Cummings

2014

I am still reincarnating some of my older work into newer pieces.  It’s so much fun to see these old renderings transformed into a brand new piece of art.  When I was sitting hunched over my drafting table all of those years ago painstakingly drawing lines, I had no idea that someday there were be a computer program that would allow me to colorize them using my original paintings.  Really technology rocks!

Not So Angry Birds

Not So Angry Birds

sharoncummings's avatarAbstract Art by Sharon Cummings

Image

Growing up, my Mom always admonished me to “never feed the seagulls!”  For one thing they may poop on your head and for another they can become aggressive and come for food that you have not released from your hands yet. Then Alfred Hitchcock came out with the movie “The Birds” which further instilled the idea that these creatures were angry little monsters.  The truth is that I have been around these beauties of the beach my whole life and I have never been attacked.  Yes, I have fed them (shhhhh….don’t tell Mom!).  I find them to be shy and aloof most of the time.  To photograph them, you have to be quiet and move gently.  It is true that they will swarm for food, but that is just normal animal behavior.  In this photographic art piece I try to capture their beauty and gentleness.  These two look to be dancing…

“Love A Bull 2”

New Art Mixed Media Painting

Sharon Cummings

2014

For the career online artist, each day brings it’s share of bull.  All we really want to do is create.  There is an energy and freedom in the creative process that feeds our souls. Everything else is outside of our comfort zone.  We list and promote, but we’ve gotten used to that.  It’s the other stuff like Chinese sweat shops stealing our work including our names, so that when our collectors search they find us there.  Regular folks that take our work and put them on socks, t-shirts and mugs for their schools, business, etc.  The businesses that want to pay us pennies for our hard work.  Companies stealing patterns from your work for brush tools.  And the list goes on…

One could choose to focus on all of that crap and become depressed.  Or the choice can…

Flowers In The Garden – Rumi

Beauty Of The Arts Beauty Of The Arts

Imam Ali once said, “be like the flower that vies its fragrance to even the hand that crushes it.”

We humans are like seeds. We belong to the garden. ‘But of what garden?’ we ask. ‘From what planting?’

We admit to pondering little about the matter of our growth in this Earthly garden. We barely discern the seed-like nature of ourselves; that the outer-life is a flower or husk, protecting or concealing our fragile inner life, an embryo of a new being-ness. Both pod and flower have a part to play if the whole self is ever to be born.

We search for ways to harmonize these often quarrelsome aspects. Will we ever succeed? If not, the difficult task of bearing new life onto the planet, life and vision and will, is bound to fail, with seeds falling on fallow ground.

Traditions also speak of the…

_MG_5288yellow rump

Friends, the expression on this yellow-rumped warbler appears as though he is mad.  I think it is the white eyebrows, but loved the feather details so excuse the extreme crop.  He was only a few feet away but he is a very small birdie.  A disclaimer, this was shot last spring with my old lens 100-400 mm Canon so I am comparing these results with the new telephoto 150-600 mm, I like the new lens better. til Tomorrow MJ
