I am grateful every day for the beauty and glory of nature. The wonderful compositions and unbelievable colors surround our daily lives and without color the world would be a very dark place. Spring brings light and fall brings closure. Winter is for resting and summer is for playing. LOL not quite but it sounds really cool. Have a great day

Dark Swan

This piece was discovered while I was creating a colorful abstract painting.  I say “discovered” because often when I create, I simply apply the medium and and the work reveals itself.  Michelangelo said it best:  I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.  I will wash, blow and splatter everything away from the painting until I find it.  “Dark Swan” appeared to me and really spoke to my soul.  It is dark, but there is lightness there also.  Just like the soul…..

I have really been working hard lately.  I am not sure why but I have more creative energy than I have ever had.  So I will leave you with another Michelangelo quote which best describes what I do each day: If people knew how hard I worked to get my mastery, it wouldn’t seem…

Stubborn and determined are the feeling I get from this image. I see a very strong being pushing their way through life. Not accepting any challenge as overwhelming and tearing through the very fabric of the universe. I see souls and chaos as part of a whole and the entity can be overwhelming at times. How much of life is a struggle and how much of it is beauty and joy. I suppose that each of us finds our balance in our own way and we live our lives the best that we can.

Sizzling Sexy Pink

To me pink is such a versatile color.  I have always loved it in splashes in my work or sometimes as the entire focal point.  It can be oh so sexy when seen on lips or lingerie. Or it can be cute and girly for a nursery.  It can create a soft calming feel or some serious drama.  There is no need to ever shy away from pink.  It works for both masculine and feminine energy.  It is the new red.

Clowns…Are you scared?

ImageAre you afraid of clowns?  I find this an unusual fear, but then again I am freighted by grasshoppers.  Phobias are funny things, but I know where mine comes from.  I think clowns are funny looking and perhaps a little too cheerful.  I was always perplexed as a child by their colorful wardrobe, painted on smiles and tears.  Often a paradox.  I mostly saw clowns at the local rodeo as I grew up in the country and that was all there was for entertainment.  I never saw a circus, but once a year we watched the bucking broncos, bulls and the clowns.  It was a dangerous job for these guys to be out there taunting the animals to distract them from a fallen cowboy.  I now find rodeo’s cruel and would never attend, but I do remember the funny characters that entertained us so well. 🙂

Ok maybe it’s not a fight, but I do have an awful lot of pillows. 🙂  I’ve been working really hard to make my artwork available in more ways.  I am working with an art agency who is marketing my work to major stores and restaurants right now.  You can find me in Spencer’s and College Bookstores.  But you can also get my work on pillows, cell phone cases, etc.  These are pieces of art in themselves and can be a focal point in your bedroom, living room or how bout your house boat?  The possibilities are endless.

Experience can be painful and it can be beautiful. It is what happens as we journey and along the way are bound to be rough spots. How we allow these to sculpt and mold us is a determining factor in our future. Not all of the things in life that are most beneficial are the easiest and I would venture to say that the ones that come the easiest are not the most enlightening. I enjoy the fact that I can learn and continue to do so every day. Along the way I smile and try to enjoy what is currently in front of me. I love humor and tragedy and the combination of these is a part of existence and happens upon us all. How much we…

Passion for Pinups

PASSION FOR PINUPSSo here is an interesting request that came to me a couple of weeks ago. To be a judge in a pinup art contest. At first I thought that it wouldn’t be something I would be interested in but I do really like the lady that is running this contest, Cindy Nunn, and I really enjoy her work. So I looked at the outline closely and realized that it could be kind of fun. So I agreed to be a judge and I am learning more about this art and having fun in the process. Passionate Photography by Zina Zinchik

sharoncummings's avatarAbstract Art by Sharon Cummings

Many people these days take pretty pictures.  Digital photography makes it easier and easier to get stunning imagery. However, most of these attractive photos do not create an emotion or make you think.  True art comes from a technical aspect and even more so from a great eye and heart.  Zina Zinchik is one artist who has both of these qualities.  When I look at her work I can “feel” the emotion behind it.  I can see that she is meticulous at setting up her shots, but also that she makes a story as she does so.

I caught up with Zina recently to learn more about her work.  Here are her answers:

What inspires your works? Photography for me opened the doors to share my fantasies, my anxieties and my emotions with people.

Which of your photographs is your favorite? My favorite is Night Sonata which was taken…
